HOW

Dichroic Glass Jewellery

Is-ko-te (an Oji-Cree word meaning ‘fire’) glass jewellery is made from dichroic glass. This marvellous and vibrant glass is made by  vaporizing and layering various and specific oxides onto sheets of fusible glass within a vacuum chamber. As the oxides strike the glass, a crystal structure is created. The selected combination of oxides produces a transmitted colour, a reflected colour and a shift colour. When heated to the temperature required by the fusing process, each original colour shifts along the rainbow to a different set of colours.

Other Techniques Used

  • Kiln-formed glass: fused and slumped
